Trauma Therapy On Long Island

Compassionate support for processing past experiences and the lasting impact they have on your life

When It Feels Like You’re Stuck

When things aren’t shifting in your life and you’re stuck with recurring thoughts or memories from the past, this is a sign that therapy can help. Perhaps you’re getting pulled into the same patterns, even when you’re trying to move forward. Or you may understand what happened, you’ve talked about it, and still, something feels stuck. That’s usually the point where therapy starts to feel necessary.

How We Work With Trauma

Trauma therapy is focused on how past experiences are still showing up in your life. The goal is to help your nervous system process them so real change can happen. Those experiences don’t have to fit anyone else’s definition of “big.” If something mattered deeply, changed how safe you felt, or still feels hard to release, that is the work.

01

We Begin With What’s Happening Now

We look at your current reactions, triggers, and patterns. What sets things off, what keeps repeating, and where you feel stuck.

02

We identify what’s still active

Often, it’s not just the event itself, but the beliefs, emotional responses, and body-level reactions that formed at the time and are still influencing you now.

03

We process the experience, not just analyze

This is where approaches like EMDR come in. Rather than staying at the level of discussion and insight, we help your brain and body reprocess experiences so they no longer feel current or overwhelming.

04

We integrate the changes

As the work progresses, you begin to notice shifts in real time. Your emotional reactions soften, you feel more sure of yourself, decisions become clearer, and you’re able to move through situations without getting pulled into the same cycles. Sessions are typically 45 minutes and are offered both in-person in Roslyn Heights, Manhattan, and virtually in New York. Some people come in for a focused period of time, while others stay longer as they continue to deepen the work.

Why This Approach Is Different

A lot of people come in saying they know what happened and they’ve talked about it. They even understand it logically, but nothing has really changed. The thing is, trauma isn’t just something you think about, it’s something your system learns to hold onto.

So even when you understand it logically, your body and emotional responses can still react as if it’s happening now. Trauma therapy on Long Island goes beyond insight and instead, focuses on how experiences are stored in your brain and body. This is the pathway we take to process the events so they stop showing up in the same way.

What Begins To Change In Trauma Therapy

At first, the shifts can be subtle. Something that used to set you off doesn’t hit you the same way. You don’t get pulled as far into the reaction, so you’re able to pause, respond differently, or you’re simply able to move through a familiar trigger point more quickly.

Over time, that builds into a stronger sense of stability. You feel clearer in your thinking, more grounded in your decisions, and more like yourself again. This is what post-traumatic growth can look like.

Trauma Therapy On Long Island FAQs:

How do I know if what I experienced is trauma?

You don’t have to label it perfectly. Most people come in because something isn’t going away. If memories or sensations still feel activating, keep showing up, or affect how you respond, that’s something we can work with.

Yes. We work with people carrying deeply painful experiences, and we see healing become possible. We can’t promise exactly what that will look like for you, but we can help you stay with the process, work through what still feels difficult, and begin to move toward the other side.

No. You set the pace. We work with what comes up and what feels manageable for you.

That’s very common. Part of this process is helping you move through that, without forcing anything.

It often looks like feeling less reactive, less stuck, and more like yourself. The past no longer has the same hold on you.

When You’re Ready

You don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out. Most people don’t. They just know something isn’t working the way it used to, and they don’t want to keep feeling this way. If that’s where you are, this is a place to start.

If it feels like a good fit, we will move forward together and create a plan that helps you reach your fullest potential.
