Getting Started

What to expect when you reach out and how the process begins

Reaching Out For Therapy Usually Means Something Isn’t Working & You’re Ready To Look At It More Closely

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start.

Step 1

Reach Out

You can begin by contacting us through the website. From there, we’ll schedule a brief consultation to understand what’s bringing you in and what you’re looking for.

This is a chance to talk through what’s been going on, ask questions, and get a sense of how we might work together.

Step 2

Initial Consultation

The first conversation is a 15-minute phone consultation focused on understanding what’s happening for you right now. We’ll talk about what’s been coming up, what feels stuck, and what you’re hoping to shift.

The next step is matching you with a therapist at the practice based on your needs and the therapist’s speciality. We will connect you and the therapist will speak with you directly. Together, you can set up the first intake session.

Step 4

Beginning Sessions

Most people start with weekly 45 minute sessions. These are available both in-person in Roslyn Heights, at our offices in Midtown Manhattan, and virtually in New York.

Depending on what you’re coming in for, we may continue with individual therapy, couples or family work, or incorporate approaches like EMDR as part of the process.

Step 3

Intake Session

Before your first session is an intake session which is an hour and 15 minutes. This session is designed to get a full history and to make sure it’s the right fit for you and the therapist.

Some people do intake sessions online, while others may come into the office. Every client’s treatment approach is customized based on the individual client’s needs. Once the intake session is complete, weekly sessions are scheduled.

What the Work Looks Like Over Time

In the beginning, we focus on understanding what’s happening now, your patterns, your reactions, and what keeps repeating. From there, we’re looking at how things are showing up in real time and beginning to shift them.

Some people come in for a shorter period of time to work through something specific. Others stay longer as they continue to build awareness and make deeper changes over time.

Getting Started FAQs:

How do I know if this is the right fit for me?

Not every therapist is the right fit for every person which is why we have multiple therapists in the practice. We work from a holistic perspective and sometimes in conjunction with other resources like acupuncture or medication management.

Part of the initial process is making sure this feels like the right place for you. We’re direct in how we work, and we focus on helping you move forward. If we’re not the right fit for you, we’ll help you find a therapist who is.

After you reach out, we’ll schedule a consultation as soon as possible. From there, we can typically begin sessions shortly after, depending on availability.

Yes. Sessions are available in-person in Roslyn Heights, Long Island, Midtown Manhattan, and virtually across New York. Many people choose one or a combination of both depending on what works best.

Most people start with weekly sessions so we can build momentum and get a clear understanding of what’s happening. From there, we adjust as needed.

That’s very common. You don’t need to have it all figured out before reaching out. We’ll talk through what’s been going on and decide together what makes the most sense.
